Proton Motor: fuel cell experts enter new phase of commercialisation

Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH from Puchheim near Munich specialises in industrial fuel cells, fuel cell systems and hybrid systems. Proton Motor is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Proton Power Systems plc, which has been listed on the London Stock Exchange since October 2006. Proton Motor has more than 13 years of experience in fuel cell technology – from developing and manufacturing fuel cells and hybrid systems to implementing tailor-made solutions. Proton Motor already offers hybrid drives with zero emissions. True to its slogan of ‘more than just fuel cells’, the company is a one-stop shop for complete, cost-effective fuel cell and hybrid systems suitable for practical use. This makes Proton Motor a pioneer of zero-emission solutions in Germany.




Proton Motor is one of the first companies in Germany to supply fuel cell and hybrid systems which are already being used in various classes of vehicle. The fuel cell manufacturer is currently stepping up its commercialisation activities and corporate communication must be professional if this is to be a success. To this end, Maisberger, together with Gröters Design and datamints, had been tasked with refashioning Proton Motor’s external image.

The goal and the work involved

  • To produce an external image with positive brand recognition for customers of Proton Motor and investors in Proton Power Systems plc
  • To increase public awareness of Proton Motor
  • To bring about an image shift: from a development company to a supplier of practical products

Measures and actions

  • To adapt the logo. To integrate Proton Power Systems plc into the logo
  • To develop a common key message for all corporate communication and create the slogan ‘more than just fuel cells’
  • To develop names for the three product families: PM Basic, PM Package and PM Turnkey
  • To design new business documents (note paper, business cards, presentation), that are easily recognised by both customers and investors
  • New website for Proton Motor that emphasises the products and areas of use
  • New website for Proton Power Systems plc containing information for investors. Integration of this website into Proton Motor’s presence on the web
  • To produce a new concept for the content and design of posters for trade fairs
  • To produce a new concept for the content and design of corporate flyers and product data sheets for the three product groups, PM Basic, PM Package and PM Turnkey, working in close collaboration with Proton Motor
  • To produce a basic press folder
  • Trade fair PR for the Hannover Messe 2007: press release to announce the company’s presence at the trade fair, invitation for journalists to interview Felix Heidelberg, CEO of Proton Motor, on-site support for interviews, follow-up

Results

  • The www.proton-motor.de website went online in April 2007
  • Integrated web presence for Proton Power Systems plc
  • Proton Motor assuming the position as a supplier of practical fuel cell and hybrid systems
  • Establishing personal contacts with relevant trade journalists through interviews at the Hannover Messe 2007
